Get Credit Report
It is easy to get credit report. Americans, for example, have the right to access their credit history from the three major credit bureaus: Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. These are the three agencies which compile your credit history for the past year. They are mandated by law to provide you with a copy, should you want to get your credit report.
You should know though, that getting a credit report is not automatic. These three aforementioned agencies will not send to you your credit report. Your credit report is not akin to billing statements. Thus, it is important that you make a request for you to get credit report.
It is easy to file a request for you to get credit report. You can opt to do so online. Just visit the websites of these agencies and fill up a form. These forms are also available at their branch or local offices, should any be available in your locality.
You may also fill up the form and send them directly to the agency. The disadvantage though is that processing time may take longer, since you have to count the time when your request was actually delivered. You may also call their hotlines to get credit report. This is a faster mode of requesting for your credit report since their phones are usually manned all the time.
When you get credit report, check it meticulously. It is important for you to give it a thorough check because it is only through this that you can spot inaccuracies that could be mere typographical errors or indicative of a case of identity theft. Note also, that you can request to get credit report from the three agencies all at the same time. This is actually recommended, so that you can check all three side by side and you can try to spot the difference easier.
But for the sake of convenience, you may also choose to get credit online on three different occasions. This is fine. The advantage would be that you can spend more time in one credit report before hopping on to the next.
The most important thing is just to go ahead and get credit report. It cannot be stressed enough the long list of advantages checking your credit report will yield. It adds to your financial protection. It keeps you organized. Most of all, it keeps you up to date all the time of your financial situation.
